Chosen Character: Hermoine Granger
Book: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K. Rowling
CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEROINE: Hermione challenges accepted convections and social norms, irrespective of the consequences to help her friend Harry defeat Lord Voldermort. She remains true to herself regardless of the danger by being adaptable to change. On many occasions she challenges accepted conventions, by not following the school rules, and faces many serious consequences such as being expelled from Hogwarts and even death.
One Quote that best describes why she should be inducted in the 'Literary Heroines Hall of Fame':
- Hermione’s heart is always in the right place, and when push comes to shove, she is more than willing to throw her usually precious rule-book out the window and do what she believes is right. In the book, Hermione makes a potion that will allow Harry and Ron to spy on Draco Malfloy. Hermione quotes, “Of course, it would be difficult. And dangerous, very dangerous. We’d be breaking about fifty school rules, I expect.” p.120.
